Songs from Kosovo
Traditional Songs from Kosovo are considered to be the oldest and most beautiful of the Serbian tradition. Most of them would be forgotten, if Irina Karamarkovic's grandfather, a composer, and her mother, a classical violinist, hadn't collected, noted and carefully coffered them.
The project 'Songs from Kosovo' resulted from the strong need to tell a story.
It has many shapes and colors and confirms the fact that we can easily lose, what we don't use. Some of these songs are very old and unbearable sad.
She has to sing them, because otherwise these stories become extinct. There are not many people left, who can make music of them. Irina devotes to a world, witch doesn't exist any more. The singer presents this precious treasure in contemporary garment. She deprives these very old native songs with charisma and vocal versatility from any politic sharing and gives them elegance and international standing.
Irina Karamarkovic Band
The charismatic quartet wants to set an informative statement whit their musical message - beyond stylistic, geographical and historic boundaries.
Irina Karamarkovic gives the band an expressive strength with her unique voice, which casts the audience in a spell of many different stories. Virtuoso rhythms of drummer Viktor Palic accompany her in a stylish manner. The Jazz pianist Stefan Heckel, born in Graz, covers the project with different sound patterns, which revive the old melodies. Wolfram Derschmidt completes the play of colors with his double bass.
In harmonical cooperation a production rises, which confidently combines the most different musical influences.
A successful symbiosis of traditional Folklore and Jazz!
