| This is a special record for the sound, the expressive qualities and the style and character of the chromatic harmonica. Mathias Bröde is one of a few musicians in modern Jazz with a virtuoso and stylistic command of this instrument. It is an instrument with particularly expressive capabilities for the similarity to the human voice, but it does not easily lend itself to playing fast lines. Mathias Bröde has found his own voice in modern European Jazz, and his compositions play an important role in defining his musical identity. Stylistically, his compositional output ranges from the rich Jazz tradition in tunes like "Pipo's Walk", "Up And Down" and "She Loves To Dance" to a more European approach in tunes like "Si peu de temps"by E. Pieranunzi, "European Faces" and "Twelve", a twelve tone composition. Noteworthy is the inclusion of two old German "standards" played here with a modern Jazz approach. |
