Robert Wolf - Per il mio amore
Robert Wolf is a reserved man - his music however, is extraordinarily intense, his compositions strike the listener in an insistent way. He learned to play the piano as a child and discovered the acoustic guitar rather late for himself, but since then, they became inseparable.
After a concert, he got to know Paco de Lucia, the god of the flamenco guitar, who was a role model for Robert for a long time. Slowly a friendship developed between the two musicians, which had a decisive impact on Robert's musical development. He matured and became a fascinating guitar player, who carried his audience away with his elegant flamenco style.
After Robert Wolf and the clarinettist Mulo Francel founded the band "Quadro Nuevo", they regularly found themselves again on the stages of this world. He played a total of 2500 concerts with Quadro Nuevo over the years, and because of his experience and expertise he became an authority in the local scene. For long years he played exceptional shows with Fany Kammerlander on the cello and Reinhard Greiner on the trumpet as Trio Faro.
But suddenly everything changed: after a car accident in November 2008, Robert Wolf wasn't able to play the guitar anymore and even his own compositions seemed to fade away slowly: "I cant write songs anymore, because I need the instrument for that."
Robert was asked to rework his music for the Bad Aibling Guitar Festival, with an ensemble of his choice, creating a portrait of his compositions for a concert. Wolf chose the string quartet Toxic Garden founded by Fany Kammerlander in 2009 with Luciana and Mascha Beleaeva and Beate Palier as foundation. At the request of Robert, his friend Knud Mensing interpreted the guitar parts with his own voice, and Wolf complemented them with accents of Reinhard Greiner's empathetic trumpet and developed a story setting with piano player and presenter Stefan Gabanyi, who leads through the evening. It became a highly acclaimed concert and the idea emerged, to immortalize the Robert Wolf Project on a record, as a statement of a great musician and as creative producer Robert shaped these recordings essentially. In the end, he achieved to combine his music with befriended musicians to a harmonic entity.
Classic, Latin and jazz - that's how you would describe the spectrum of Robert Wolf's music. The track list of this record contains intimate compositions, which were originally created for Trio Faro, a Waltz from Knud Mensing, that he wrote for Robert Wolf, recorded with guest guitar player Josho Stefan, as well as a Mexican traditional and even a piece by composer Vladimir Beleaev, created exclusively for this record.
This quote by Victor Hugo precisely describes what many feel listening to Robert Wolf's music: "Music expresses that which cannot be said and on which it is impossible to be silent."
